i think curiousity comes first. those who have left footprints in the sands of time started by questioning the prevalent conditions - how do things work and why do they work. Only after that did they start to find out what can work better. success without curiousity has more in it than meets the eye

What I gather is that this G-Buzz is something like a blend between Facebook Updates and Twitter following. Ok, has Google run out of novel ideas? or is it that they do not want to keep on with their spending spree that they used to be in through purchasing whatever seemed good/cash-cow to Google. (Orkut, Youtube ++). If they fancied social networking, why not woo Zuckerberg to name a price and aquire it or simple yet to take over the profit-less twitter?

They are trying to out-facebook facebook and out-twitter twitter, Folks who want to do these things are already doing them either by facebook, twitter or email (ironically).

I think it will fail or get stuck in some sort of purgatory like Orkut.

Funny u took it from the LBS angle, which makes better sense. But from the social networking perspective, I fail to see buzz as that next big thing.

I think curiosity is a great attribute of the trailblazer of this generation. If curiosity means a longing to know more and improve. You have to be a step ahead of your competitor by using the powerful tool of curiosity. Like Alvin Toffler said, "the secret of success in the emerging market is the ability to learn and unlearn"

You need to know that through curiosity you acquire information but you have to sit down and act on this information to produce tangible result otherwise it is of no use.

No particular reason actually. Except you intend to store a very large data set, MD5 should do just about well. SHA-1 on the other hand reduces the probability of a collision further but will take more storage space.

As long as your unique identifier generator produces values that have a nearly zero probability of collisions, it really doesn't matter how you go about it so I'm happy with whatever works. May be you could show us some code :)

Looks like your first time here too. Welcome to my blog.
