Thanks.

wow! what a wonderful insightful article.
I had the same issue of mash-ups with MapNTL and i told them.
I hardly use it except its critical and i don't believe its mobile compatible.
They need a cleaner design also.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Just a quick update, I track activity on edits that are made on Google Mapmaker for Nigeria and in recent times, there has been a tremendous amount of edits. I do not know if this article among others has inspired more people to create content there or someone has a commercial contract to do so. And by the way, if you use Google Maps for Mobiles, you will see features that have been contributed by community members.

@Solomonsydelle thanks for the birthday wishes. I was really off the web for about a week starting on my birthday.

@Adama thanks and please do keep coming here.

@Emmanuel I have used mapntl.com before but why I would choose Google Maps instead is simple - mapntl.com is just that - a mapping service. I cannot create a mashup using their content and that's where I got a winner in Google Maps. Besides that, mapntl.com is a great resource. I should write a blog post on Nokia Maps. With applications like that, there's little mapntl.com can offer that's different.

@Budzeg you can and I suggest you do so. I was in Akute over the weekend and I was really amazed at detail of the road network that was on Google Maps for Mobiles already.

@Edozie, @Seun, @AB, @Lanre, @Ayo, @Kazie thanks!

Nice post. I really cant contain my excitemnet at the rate of development in Nigeria. I came across a post about an interactive street map of Lagos (<a href="http://www.tradeinvestnigeria.com/feature_articles/921901.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.tradeinvestnigeria.com/feature_articles/921901.htm</a>) I could not help but notice the writers' insinuation that www.mapntl.com has more local content than Google map. I tried it and i was amazed at the depth and richness of the Lagos street map contained therein. Now seeing your own post about the map of Lagos on Google convinced me that online map will continue to be a good internet resource for Nigerians.

There is one advantage mapntl.com has over Google map though -businesses like Zenith Bank, Mr Biggs, Tantalizers, FCMB, Oceanic Bank, etc are all marked on mapntl.com using their corporate logos. This to me is an important value as it makes it a lot easier for consumers in Lagos to connect visually with business locations. People like me can actually browse lagos street map online and see where Stanbic IBTC bank, ETB, Africbank, First Bank, Union Bank, etc are located in Lagos by just looking out for their respective logos, fantastic!! Will Google map get to this point soon in the future?
